How to fill the name fields so they match your passport
Updated
Copy the passport letter for letter. Primer Nombre is your first given name and Segundo Nombre any other given names (blank if none); Primer Apellido is your surname and Segundo Apellido stays blank unless the passport prints a second surname. Never invent a name to fill a box, and keep one spelling everywhere.
Fill the four fields
- 1
Read the name from the passport
Use the photo page or the two lines at the bottom of it, not a driving licence or a booking. The name check tool splits it for you.
- 2
Primer Nombre
The first given name only, exactly as printed. Not the full name.

- 3
Segundo Nombre
Every other given name, in passport order, or blank if there is none. A surname never goes here.

Primer Apellido
Your surname as printed. A hyphenated surname, or one with a particle such as DE or DEL, is one surname and goes here whole.

How this works
- Every step, mistake and answer rests on a rule in our rules base, with its source (official manual, reviewer, or applicant reports) and the date it was last verified. If a rule is withdrawn, that point disappears from the page.
- Amounts, durations and limits come from one configuration with its own verification date; "Last updated" is the newest date of everything the page shows.
- Written by us from the MPPRE manuals and dated applicant reports. We never quote or name members of community groups.
